IB DP Music HL
Music HL is the Higher Level course for Music. It covers performing, creating and exploring music across cultures and contexts.
Higher Level (HL) courses are designed for students with a strong interest or a plan to study the subject further. They typically involve about 240 teaching hours and cover more content, in greater depth, than Standard Level.
What students will do
- Perform and compose
- Analyse musical features
- Connect music with its context
Internal assessment
Students complete creating and performing tasks, which contributes to the final grade alongside the external exams.
Revision tip
Keep a process journal. Sketches, notes and reflections show your thinking, and they are exactly what assessors want to see.
Should I choose SL or SL?
Choose HL for subjects you enjoy most or may study at university, and SL for the rest. Your teacher or DP coordinator can advise on the right balance.
