IB DP Physics HL
Physics HL is the Higher Level course for Physics. It covers mechanics, thermal physics, waves, fields and modern physics, with practical investigation.
Higher Level (HL) courses are designed for students with a strong interest or a plan to study the subject further. They typically involve about 240 teaching hours and cover more content, in greater depth, than Standard Level.
What students will do
- Solve problems quantitatively
- Apply models to real situations
- Analyse and evaluate data
Internal assessment
Students complete an independent scientific investigation, which contributes to the final grade alongside the external exams.
Link every fact to an everyday example. Ideas you can connect to real life are much easier to remember and apply.
Should I choose SL or SL?
Choose HL for subjects you enjoy most or may study at university, and SL for the rest. Your teacher or DP coordinator can advise on the right balance.
