Functions in IB MYP Grade 5 Mathematics
Functions is part of IB MYP Grade 5 Mathematics, within Algebra. At this advanced stage (ages 15–16), learners work on analysing function behaviour and transformations and working with composite and inverse functions.
MYP Mathematics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: investigating patterns, C: communicating and D: applying mathematics in real-world contexts). Regular practice with functions builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.
What learners practise
- Analysing function behaviour and transformations
- Working with composite and inverse functions
For students
Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.
For revision
Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.
For teachers
Use functions activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.
Little and often beats cramming: ten focused questions a day will build more fluency than one long session at the weekend.
Quick answers
Who is the Functions page for?
It is for IB MYP Grade 5 Mathematics learners, typically aged 15–16, and for the parents and teachers who support them.
Are functions resources free?
Many are. Each resource shows a clear Free or price label, so you can start with the free ones and add premium resources when you need more practice.
How should I use these resources?
Pick one resource, complete it without help first, then check and correct. Repeating this little and often is more effective than one long session.
