Number & Place Value in IB PYP Grade 2 Mathematics
Number & Place Value is part of IB PYP Grade 2 Mathematics. At this developing stage (ages 7–8), learners work on reading and writing numbers beyond 100, understanding hundreds, tens and ones and comparing and ordering larger numbers.
PYP learning is inquiry-based: children explore ideas through questions, play and real-life examples, so worksheets and games here are designed to be short, clear and encouraging.
What learners practise
- Reading and writing numbers beyond 100
- Understanding hundreds, tens and ones
- Comparing and ordering larger numbers
- Using number lines and place-value charts
For students
Work through the worksheets and interactive activities at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.
For parents
Sit with your child for the first few questions and ask “how do you know?”. Praise effort and keep sessions short.
For teachers
Use number & place value activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.
When you get a question wrong, redo it a day later without looking at the solution. If you can do it cold, the idea has stuck.
