IB DP Film HL
Film HL is the Higher Level course for Film. It covers analysing, planning and producing film, with attention to film history and theory.
Higher Level (HL) courses are designed for students with a strong interest or a plan to study the subject further. They typically involve about 240 teaching hours and cover more content, in greater depth, than Standard Level.
What students will do
- Analyse film language
- Plan and produce original work
- Reflect on the creative process
Internal assessment
Students complete a film portfolio and production, which contributes to the final grade alongside the external exams.
Share work-in-progress with a friend or teacher early. Feedback while there is still time to act on it is worth more than praise at the end.
Should I choose SL or SL?
Choose HL for subjects you enjoy most or may study at university, and SL for the rest. Your teacher or DP coordinator can advise on the right balance.
