IB DP Film SL

Film SL is the Standard Level course for Film. It covers analysing, planning and producing film, with attention to film history and theory.

Standard Level (SL) courses cover the essential content and skills in roughly 150 teaching hours, giving a solid foundation without the added depth and breadth of Higher Level.

What students will do

  • Analyse film language
  • Plan and produce original work
  • Reflect on the creative process

Internal assessment

Students complete a film portfolio and production, which contributes to the final grade alongside the external exams.

Revision tip

Study work by artists and performers you admire, then explain in a sentence what you could borrow from their technique.

Should I choose HL or HL?

Choose HL for subjects you enjoy most or may study at university, and SL for the rest. Your teacher or DP coordinator can advise on the right balance.
