IB DP Economics SL
Economics SL is the Standard Level course for Economics. It covers microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy, with real-world case study.
Standard Level (SL) courses cover the essential content and skills in roughly 150 teaching hours, giving a solid foundation without the added depth and breadth of Higher Level.
What students will do
- Apply economic theory with diagrams
- Evaluate policies and trade-offs
- Write structured, analytical responses
Internal assessment
Students complete a portfolio of commentaries on real-world news, which contributes to the final grade alongside the external exams.
Revision tip
Build a simple timeline or concept map for each unit. Seeing the whole picture on one page makes revision much faster.
Should I choose HL or HL?
Choose HL for subjects you enjoy most or may study at university, and SL for the rest. Your teacher or DP coordinator can advise on the right balance.
