IB DP Psychology SL
Psychology SL is the Standard Level course for Psychology. It covers biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches to understanding behaviour, supported by empirical research.
Standard Level (SL) courses cover the essential content and skills in roughly 150 teaching hours, giving a solid foundation without the added depth and breadth of Higher Level.
What students will do
- Describe and evaluate key studies
- Understand research methods
- Write structured, evidence-based responses
Internal assessment
Students complete a simple experimental study, which contributes to the final grade alongside the external exams.
Revision tip
Build a simple timeline or concept map for each unit. Seeing the whole picture on one page makes revision much faster.
Should I choose HL or HL?
Choose HL for subjects you enjoy most or may study at university, and SL for the rest. Your teacher or DP coordinator can advise on the right balance.
