IB DP Mandarin B HL
Mandarin B HL is the Higher Level course for Mandarin B. It covers developing Mandarin as an additional language for the DP, through themes such as identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation and sharing the planet.
Higher Level (HL) courses are designed for students with a strong interest or a plan to study the subject further. They typically involve about 240 teaching hours and cover more content, in greater depth, than Standard Level.
What students will do
- Understand and respond to authentic texts
- Speak and interact fluently
- Write for different audiences and purposes
Internal assessment
Students complete an individual oral, which contributes to the final grade alongside the external exams.
Draft first, then improve. Reading your writing aloud is the quickest way to spot sentences that need fixing.
Should I choose SL or SL?
Choose HL for subjects you enjoy most or may study at university, and SL for the rest. Your teacher or DP coordinator can advise on the right balance.
