IB DP Mandarin B SL
Mandarin B SL is the Standard Level course for Mandarin B. It covers developing Mandarin as an additional language for the DP, through themes such as identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation and sharing the planet.
Standard Level (SL) courses cover the essential content and skills in roughly 150 teaching hours, giving a solid foundation without the added depth and breadth of Higher Level.
What students will do
- Understand and respond to authentic texts
- Speak and interact fluently
- Write for different audiences and purposes
Internal assessment
Students complete an individual oral, which contributes to the final grade alongside the external exams.
Keep a small notebook of new words, and use each one in a sentence of your own within a day or two.
Should I choose HL or HL?
Choose HL for subjects you enjoy most or may study at university, and SL for the rest. Your teacher or DP coordinator can advise on the right balance.
