IB DP Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL
Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL is the Standard Level course for Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches. It covers algebra, functions, geometry and trigonometry, calculus, and statistics and probability, with an emphasis on proof and abstract reasoning.
Standard Level (SL) courses cover the essential content and skills in roughly 150 teaching hours, giving a solid foundation without the added depth and breadth of Higher Level.
What students will do
- Develop fluent algebraic and calculus technique
- Construct clear mathematical arguments
- Solve unfamiliar problems
Internal assessment
Students complete a mathematical exploration, which contributes to the final grade alongside the external exams.
Show every step of your working, then check each answer by estimating first. Examiners reward clear reasoning as much as correct answers.
Should I choose HL or HL?
Choose HL for subjects you enjoy most or may study at university, and SL for the rest. Your teacher or DP coordinator can advise on the right balance.
