IB DP Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL
Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL is the Higher Level course for Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation. It covers number, algebra, functions, geometry, statistics and calculus, with an emphasis on modelling and technology.
Higher Level (HL) courses are designed for students with a strong interest or a plan to study the subject further. They typically involve about 240 teaching hours and cover more content, in greater depth, than Standard Level.
What students will do
- Model real situations mathematically
- Use technology effectively
- Interpret and communicate results
Internal assessment
Students complete a mathematical exploration, which contributes to the final grade alongside the external exams.
Little and often beats cramming: ten focused questions a day will build more fluency than one long session at the weekend.
Should I choose SL or SL?
Choose HL for subjects you enjoy most or may study at university, and SL for the rest. Your teacher or DP coordinator can advise on the right balance.
