Speaking in IB MYP Grade 1 English Language Acquisition
Speaking is part of IB MYP Grade 1 English Language Acquisition. At this foundational stage (ages 11–12), learners work on naming familiar objects and ideas aloud and answering simple questions in full sentences.
MYP English Language Acquisition is assessed against four criteria (A: listening, B: reading, C: speaking and D: writing). Regular practice with speaking builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.
What learners practise
- Naming familiar objects and ideas aloud
- Answering simple questions in full sentences
For students
Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.
For revision
Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.
For teachers
Use speaking activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.
Read a little every day and talk about what you read. Retelling a story or an argument in your own words builds comprehension and vocabulary.

Are speaking resources free?
Many are. Each resource shows a clear Free or price label, so you can start with the free ones and add premium resources when you need more practice.
