Functions and Modelling in IB MYP Grade 1 Mathematics

In IB MYP Grade 1 Mathematics, Functions and Modelling gives foundational learners (ages 11–12) the chance to practise representing simple real situations with numbers and modelling relationships with tables and graphs.

MYP Mathematics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: investigating patterns, C: communicating and D: applying mathematics in real-world contexts). Regular practice with functions and modelling builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Representing simple real situations with numbers
  • Modelling relationships with tables and graphs

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use functions and modelling activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Show every step of your working, then check each answer by estimating first. Examiners reward clear reasoning as much as correct answers.
