Functions and Modelling in IB MYP Grade 3 Mathematics
In IB MYP Grade 3 Mathematics, Functions and Modelling gives intermediate learners (ages 13–14) the chance to practise modelling relationships with tables and graphs, modelling with linear functions and modelling with non-linear functions.
MYP Mathematics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: investigating patterns, C: communicating and D: applying mathematics in real-world contexts). Regular practice with functions and modelling builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.
What learners practise
- Modelling relationships with tables and graphs
- Modelling with linear functions
- Modelling with non-linear functions
For students
Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.
For revision
Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.
For teachers
Use functions and modelling activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.
When you get a question wrong, redo it a day later without looking at the solution. If you can do it cold, the idea has stuck.
Quick answers
Who is the Functions and Modelling page for?
It is for IB MYP Grade 3 Mathematics learners, typically aged 13–14, and for the parents and teachers who support them.
Are functions and modelling resources free?
Many are. Each resource shows a clear Free or price label, so you can start with the free ones and add premium resources when you need more practice.
How should I use these resources?
Pick one resource, complete it without help first, then check and correct. Repeating this little and often is more effective than one long session.
