Computational Thinking in IB MYP Grade 2 Digital Design
Computational Thinking is part of IB MYP Grade 2 Digital Design. At this developing stage (ages 12–13), learners work on breaking a task into simple steps, recognising patterns in a problem and designing a step-by-step solution.
MYP Digital Design is assessed against four criteria (A: inquiring and analysing, B: developing ideas, C: creating the solution and D: evaluating). Regular practice with computational thinking builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.
What learners practise
- Breaking a task into simple steps
- Recognising patterns in a problem
- Designing a step-by-step solution
For students
Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.
For revision
Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.
For teachers
Use computational thinking activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.
Test early and test often. A quick prototype that fails teaches you more than a polished idea that was never tried.
Quick answers
Who is the Computational Thinking page for?
It is for IB MYP Grade 2 Digital Design learners, typically aged 12–13, and for the parents and teachers who support them.
Are computational thinking resources free?
Many are. Each resource shows a clear Free or price label, so you can start with the free ones and add premium resources when you need more practice.
How should I use these resources?
Pick one resource, complete it without help first, then check and correct. Repeating this little and often is more effective than one long session.
