Mathematical Investigations in IB MYP Grade 2 Mathematics
In IB MYP Grade 2 Mathematics, Mathematical Investigations gives developing learners (ages 12–13) the chance to practise exploring a simple maths puzzle, investigating a pattern hands-on and testing a mathematical conjecture.
MYP Mathematics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: investigating patterns, C: communicating and D: applying mathematics in real-world contexts). Regular practice with mathematical investigations builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.
What learners practise
- Exploring a simple maths puzzle
- Investigating a pattern hands-on
- Testing a mathematical conjecture
For students
Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.
For revision
Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.
For teachers
Use mathematical investigations activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.
Little and often beats cramming: ten focused questions a day will build more fluency than one long session at the weekend.
