Art History and Context in IB MYP Grade 5 Visual Arts
Art History and Context is part of IB MYP Grade 5 Visual Arts. At this advanced stage (ages 15–16), learners work on analysing artists and movements and critically evaluating art history and context.
MYP Visual Arts is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: developing skills, C: thinking creatively and D: responding). Regular practice with art history and context builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.
What learners practise
- Analysing artists and movements
- Critically evaluating art history and context
For students
Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.
For revision
Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.
For teachers
Use art history and context activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.
Keep a process journal. Sketches, notes and reflections show your thinking, and they are exactly what assessors want to see.
