Reading in IB MYP Grade 5 English Language Acquisition

In IB MYP Grade 5 English Language Acquisition, Reading gives advanced learners (ages 15–16) the chance to practise inferring meaning from context and critical and analytical reading of longer texts.

MYP English Language Acquisition is assessed against four criteria (A: listening, B: reading, C: speaking and D: writing). Regular practice with reading builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Inferring meaning from context
  • Critical and analytical reading of longer texts

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use reading activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Draft first, then improve. Reading your writing aloud is the quickest way to spot sentences that need fixing.
