Reading in IB MYP Grade 3 English Language Acquisition

In IB MYP Grade 3 English Language Acquisition, Reading gives intermediate learners (ages 13–14) the chance to practise guided reading with picture support, reading fluency and expression and comprehension of short passages.

MYP English Language Acquisition is assessed against four criteria (A: listening, B: reading, C: speaking and D: writing). Regular practice with reading builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Guided reading with picture support
  • Reading fluency and expression
  • Comprehension of short passages

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use reading activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Read a little every day and talk about what you read. Retelling a story or an argument in your own words builds comprehension and vocabulary.
