Statistics and Probability in IB MYP Grade 5 Mathematics
Statistics and Probability is part of IB MYP Grade 5 Mathematics. At this advanced stage (ages 15–16), learners work on calculating averages and likelihood and analysing statistical distributions and probability models.
MYP Mathematics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: investigating patterns, C: communicating and D: applying mathematics in real-world contexts). Regular practice with statistics and probability builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.
What learners practise
- Calculating averages and likelihood
- Analysing statistical distributions and probability models
For students
Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.
For revision
Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.
For teachers
Use statistics and probability activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.
Little and often beats cramming: ten focused questions a day will build more fluency than one long session at the weekend.
Quick answers
Who is the Statistics and Probability page for?
It is for IB MYP Grade 5 Mathematics learners, typically aged 15–16, and for the parents and teachers who support them.
Are statistics and probability resources free?
Many are. Each resource shows a clear Free or price label, so you can start with the free ones and add premium resources when you need more practice.
How should I use these resources?
Pick one resource, complete it without help first, then check and correct. Repeating this little and often is more effective than one long session.
