Time in IB PYP Grade 1 Mathematics
Time is how we measure when things happen. In the PYP Measurement strand, Grade 1 learners learn the days of the week and the months of the year, tell the time to the hour and half hour, and put everyday events in order using words such as before, after, first and last.
PYP learning is inquiry-based, so every worksheet here is short, colourful and playful, with a friendly animal guide and a teacher answer key on page 2.
What learners practise
- Saying the days of the week and months of the year in order
- Finding the day before and the day after
- Reading o’clock and half past on an analogue clock
- Writing digital times such as 3:30
- Putting daily routines and events in order
Time at a glance
- 7 days in a week and 12 months in a year
- O’clock: the minute hand points to 12
- Half past: the minute hand points to 6
- Short hand = hours, long hand = minutes
For students
Read each instruction carefully, try every question and colour the animal when you finish.
For parents
Print on A4, read the instructions aloud together and let your child work alone before you check.
For teachers
Use a worksheet as a starter, homework or exit ticket. Each one has a name, class and date box and an answer key.
Use a real clock with moving hands. Ask “What time do we have lunch?” each day and let children set the hands to match.
Quick answers
Who is the Time page for?
It is for IB PYP Grade 1 Mathematics learners, typically aged 6–7, and for the parents and teachers who support them.
What time skills are in Grade 1?
Learners tell the time to the hour and half hour, name days and months and sequence events in a day.
Do the clocks show digital times too?
Yes. Many worksheets ask children to match analogue clocks with digital times such as 4:30.
How should I use these worksheets?
Pick one worksheet, let your child try it without help first, then check together with the answer key on page 2. Short sessions of five to ten minutes, a few times a week, work best.
