Equations in IB MYP Grade 1 Mathematics
Equations is part of IB MYP Grade 1 Mathematics, within Algebra. At this foundational stage (ages 11–12), learners work on understanding balance in a simple equation and solving one-step equations.
MYP Mathematics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: investigating patterns, C: communicating and D: applying mathematics in real-world contexts). Regular practice with equations builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.
What learners practise
- Understanding balance in a simple equation
- Solving one-step equations
For students
Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.
For revision
Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.
For teachers
Use equations activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.
Little and often beats cramming: ten focused questions a day will build more fluency than one long session at the weekend.
