Equations in IB MYP Grade 3 Mathematics

In IB MYP Grade 3 Mathematics, Equations, within Algebra gives intermediate learners (ages 13–14) the chance to practise solving one-step equations, solving two-step linear equations and solving equations with variables on both sides.

MYP Mathematics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: investigating patterns, C: communicating and D: applying mathematics in real-world contexts). Regular practice with equations builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Solving one-step equations
  • Solving two-step linear equations
  • Solving equations with variables on both sides

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use equations activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

When you get a question wrong, redo it a day later without looking at the solution. If you can do it cold, the idea has stuck.

Quick answers
