Equations in IB MYP Grade 4 Mathematics
In IB MYP Grade 4 Mathematics, Equations, within Algebra gives advancing learners (ages 14–15) the chance to practise solving two-step linear equations, solving equations with variables on both sides and solving simultaneous and quadratic equations.
MYP Mathematics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: investigating patterns, C: communicating and D: applying mathematics in real-world contexts). Regular practice with equations builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.
What learners practise
- Solving two-step linear equations
- Solving equations with variables on both sides
- Solving simultaneous and quadratic equations
For students
Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.
For revision
Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.
For teachers
Use equations activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.
When you get a question wrong, redo it a day later without looking at the solution. If you can do it cold, the idea has stuck.
Quick answers
Who is the Equations page for?
It is for IB MYP Grade 4 Mathematics learners, typically aged 14–15, and for the parents and teachers who support them.
Are equations resources free?
Many are. Each resource shows a clear Free or price label, so you can start with the free ones and add premium resources when you need more practice.
How should I use these resources?
Pick one resource, complete it without help first, then check and correct. Repeating this little and often is more effective than one long session.
