Mechanics in IB MYP Grade 3 Physics

Mechanics is part of IB MYP Grade 3 Physics. At this intermediate stage (ages 13–14), learners work on investigating motion and forces, understanding work and energy in mechanics and analysing forces and motion quantitatively.

MYP Physics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: inquiring and designing, C: processing and evaluating and D: reflecting on the impacts of science). Regular practice with mechanics builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Investigating motion and forces
  • Understanding work and energy in mechanics
  • Analysing forces and motion quantitatively

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use mechanics activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Link every fact to an everyday example. Ideas you can connect to real life are much easier to remember and apply.
