Mechanics in IB MYP Grade 4 Physics

In IB MYP Grade 4 Physics, Mechanics gives advancing learners (ages 14–15) the chance to practise understanding work and energy in mechanics, analysing forces and motion quantitatively and applying advanced mechanics to complex systems.

MYP Physics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: inquiring and designing, C: processing and evaluating and D: reflecting on the impacts of science). Regular practice with mechanics builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Understanding work and energy in mechanics
  • Analysing forces and motion quantitatively
  • Applying advanced mechanics to complex systems

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use mechanics activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Sketch a quick diagram or flow chart for every process you study. Visual summaries are far easier to revise from than paragraphs.

Quick answers

Who is the Mechanics page for?

It is for IB MYP Grade 4 Physics learners, typically aged 14–15, and for the parents and teachers who support them.

Are mechanics resources free?

Many are. Each resource shows a clear Free or price label, so you can start with the free ones and add premium resources when you need more practice.

How should I use these resources?

Pick one resource, complete it without help first, then check and correct. Repeating this little and often is more effective than one long session.
