Waves in IB MYP Grade 3 Physics

Waves is part of IB MYP Grade 3 Physics. At this intermediate stage (ages 13–14), learners work on investigating how waves travel, understanding wave properties and analysing wave behaviour mathematically.

MYP Physics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: inquiring and designing, C: processing and evaluating and D: reflecting on the impacts of science). Regular practice with waves builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Investigating how waves travel
  • Understanding wave properties
  • Analysing wave behaviour mathematically

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use waves activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Read each question for the command word (describe, explain, compare) before you start. It tells you how much detail is expected.

Quick answers

Who is the Waves page for?

It is for IB MYP Grade 3 Physics learners, typically aged 13–14, and for the parents and teachers who support them.

Are waves resources free?

Many are. Each resource shows a clear Free or price label, so you can start with the free ones and add premium resources when you need more practice.

How should I use these resources?
