Design Development in IB MYP Grade 5 Product Design

Design Development is part of IB MYP Grade 5 Product Design. At this advanced stage (ages 15–16), learners work on prototyping and testing design solutions and applying advanced design development processes.

MYP Product Design is assessed against four criteria (A: inquiring and analysing, B: developing ideas, C: creating the solution and D: evaluating). Regular practice with design development builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Prototyping and testing design solutions
  • Applying advanced design development processes

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use design development activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Document every stage of the design cycle with photos, sketches and short notes. The process matters as much as the final product.
