Design Development in IB MYP Grade 3 Product Design

In IB MYP Grade 3 Product Design, Design Development gives intermediate learners (ages 13–14) the chance to practise sketching and planning a design, developing and refining design ideas and prototyping and testing design solutions.

MYP Product Design is assessed against four criteria (A: inquiring and analysing, B: developing ideas, C: creating the solution and D: evaluating). Regular practice with design development builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Sketching and planning a design
  • Developing and refining design ideas
  • Prototyping and testing design solutions

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use design development activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Test early and test often. A quick prototype that fails teaches you more than a polished idea that was never tried.

Many are. Each resource shows a clear Free or price label, so you can start with the free ones and add premium resources when you need more practice.
