Design Cycle in IB MYP Grade 5 Product Design

In IB MYP Grade 5 Product Design, Design Cycle gives advanced learners (ages 15–16) the chance to practise testing and improving a design and applying the full design cycle rigorously.

MYP Product Design is assessed against four criteria (A: inquiring and analysing, B: developing ideas, C: creating the solution and D: evaluating). Regular practice with design cycle builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Testing and improving a design
  • Applying the full design cycle rigorously

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use design cycle activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Document every stage of the design cycle with photos, sketches and short notes. The process matters as much as the final product.
