Chemical Reactions in IB MYP Grade 2 Chemistry

In IB MYP Grade 2 Chemistry, Chemical Reactions gives developing learners (ages 12–13) the chance to practise exploring simple mixing and change, investigating signs of a chemical reaction and understanding reactants and products.

MYP Chemistry is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: inquiring and designing, C: processing and evaluating and D: reflecting on the impacts of science). Regular practice with chemical reactions builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Exploring simple mixing and change
  • Investigating signs of a chemical reaction
  • Understanding reactants and products

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use chemical reactions activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Read each question for the command word (describe, explain, compare) before you start. It tells you how much detail is expected.
