Testing and Evaluation in IB MYP Grade 3 Product Design

Testing and Evaluation is part of IB MYP Grade 3 Product Design. At this intermediate stage (ages 13–14), learners work on checking if a creation works as planned, testing a solution against simple criteria and evaluating a solution and suggesting improvements.

MYP Product Design is assessed against four criteria (A: inquiring and analysing, B: developing ideas, C: creating the solution and D: evaluating). Regular practice with testing and evaluation builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Checking if a creation works as planned
  • Testing a solution against simple criteria
  • Evaluating a solution and suggesting improvements

For students

Work through the worksheets, practice questions and revision resources at your own pace. Check your answers, then redo anything that felt tricky and explain each answer in your own words.

For revision

Use these resources for homework, end-of-unit revision and catching up on anything missed in class.

For teachers

Use testing and evaluation activities as a starter, homework or retrieval practice, and mix free and premium resources to differentiate.

Study tip

Document every stage of the design cycle with photos, sketches and short notes. The process matters as much as the final product.
