Measures of Central Tendency in IB MYP Grade 3 Mathematics

In IB MYP Grade 3 Mathematics, Measures of Central Tendency, within Statistics and Probability gives intermediate learners (ages 13–14) the chance to practise calculating the mean of a simple data set, comparing mean, median and mode and analysing spread alongside central tendency.

MYP Mathematics is assessed against four criteria (A: knowing and understanding, B: investigating patterns, C: communicating and D: applying mathematics in real-world contexts). Regular practice with measures of central tendency builds the knowledge and skills those criteria reward.

What learners practise

  • Calculating the mean of a simple data set
  • Comparing mean, median and mode
  • Analysing spread alongside central tendency
